The Global One Primary School is a newly constructed school building in Kibera with space for 225 students. The building was sponsored by PERI, the manufacturer of the TwistBlock mould. In the new building, the children are able to learn and play together in nine classrooms. The building also includes a staff room and a kitchen where meals are cooked for the children.
7,000 TwistBlocks were used for the school building and there are some special architectural features. One of these is the staircase, which was specially designed to fit into the available space. The staircase was prefabricated in our TwistBlock factories due to the special structure of the building. The many windows allow plenty of daylight into the building, making the rooms bright and inviting. The design of the windows is adapted to the playful design of the building and therefore fits perfectly into the overall picture. Another highlight is the spacious roof terrace with a sweeping view over Kibera. The school building was opened at the beginning of February, and we are delighted to be able to play a key role in ensuring that many students from Kibera have an adequate place to learn.
